This June marks 15 years since I started blogging about role-playing games. The RPG Corner, as I rather ostentatiously dubbed my blog, was my little place for reviews, critiques, system wankery, and actual-play reports. (Anyone remember the Solo GPC?)
In 2016, I moved over to a blog on my own domain (the since-mothballed sirlarkins.com), but by that time I’d gone full-time in the RPG industry and work was picking up. I found I had less time for the sort of random musings and silly series that was my chief use of the blogging platform. Things had changed by then, too. The days of Google Plus, the chief social media platform for RPG bloggers (improbably enough) were numbered; lots of people were moving on, it seemed. So I hung up my blogging cap after a while.
Now, with Facebook and Twitter’s respective feet of clay seeming to crumble, I’ve seen folks moving once again onto other platforms. Discord is nice and all, and I’m on my fair share of servers, but I’ve seen more and more of my fellow RPG writers and thinkers giving this ol’ Substack thing a go, and figured I would too. Even if it is just a 2020s version of Blogger…
I figure I’ll use this space to talk about what I’m running or playing, what I’m excited about at any given moment, and promote my published or forthcoming work. I may drop some behind-the-scenes tidbits about my developmental work on Pendragon as well, although I expect most of that type of content will continue to appear on the Chaosium website.
Hail Sir David of Larkins!
Hi David! I remember! :) You were there doing your Pendragon 1x1 campaign w/your wife and blogging about it, and that was huge in helping me to do my OD&D campaign w/my wife.
Funny enough, today we just picked up the starter Pendragon set. I've got the 1e box set and the TGPC book, but that starter set looked perfect to get us back into things. I was poking around to see if you were still around and sure enough!
I hope you all are doing well :)
I've moved off substack, but I'll definitely keep in touch w/you and subscribe to your RSS feed!
